COLLABORATIVE, MINDFUL, AND SUPPORTIVE THERAPY

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.”

                                                                                                                           — Nido Qubein

Therapy begins where you are — not where you think you should be. In our work together, we’ll explore your experiences with curiosity, compassion, and courage, identifying your values and building the skills that will help guide you forward. Every step is part of your path, and every beginning is worth honoring.

“You do not just wake up and become the butterfly—growth is a process.”

                                                                                                                                  — Rupi Kaur

Healing takes time, and transformation is not instant — but it is possible. I strive to create a safe, nurturing space where you can explore the layers of your experience, learn new ways of coping, and grow into the most authentic version of yourself. Your process is valid, and your pace is respected.

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

                                                                                                                           — Maya Angelou

The journey through struggle, self-reflection, and growth is often unseen — but never unworthy. My role as a therapist is to walk beside you as you navigate that path, honoring your resilience, your vulnerability, and the hard-earned beauty that emerges from within. Transformation is not only possible — it’s powerful.

“Be patient with yourself. Nothing in nature blooms all year.”

                                                                                                                                   — Unknown

Therapy is not about perfection — it’s about presence, patience, and progress. I offer a space where rest, reflection, and rebuilding are all part of the work. In our time together, we’ll honor the cycles of your growth, recognizing that healing has its own rhythm — and that every season has meaning.

ALL ABOUT THERAPY

Therapeutic Methods

I provide both in-person and telehealth therapy for individuals, children, families, and couples. My therapeutic style is rooted in respect, compassion, and collaboration. I view our work together as a partnership, centered on your goals and growth, and shaped by your unique experiences, values, and strengths.

My primary therapeutic orientation is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on helping clients understand and respond to their thoughts and emotions in ways that support meaningful change. This approach encourages self-awareness, emotional flexibility, and value-driven action. We’ll work together to build coping tools, clarify direction, and cultivate a stronger sense of self.

In addition to ACT, I incorporate a variety of other evidence-based practices to meet your individual needs. Strength-based therapy helps highlight and build on your existing abilities and resilience. Mindfulness practices offer grounding and support emotional regulation by encouraging awareness and presence. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) can be helpful in identifying unhelpful thought patterns and reshaping the way you respond to challenges. Behaviorism techniques provide structured strategies to encourage positive behaviors and reduce those that may be interfering with your daily life. I also use psychoeducation throughout the therapeutic process to help clients and families better understand mental health challenges and build practical tools for long-term well-being.

For clients who are drawn to creative or nontraditional approaches, I also offer the option of incorporating games like Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing adventures into therapy. These imaginative, collaborative formats can be a powerful way to explore emotions, build problem-solving and social skills, and foster self-expression—especially for those who don’t feel comfortable with more conventional therapy methods.

When working with younger children, I use play therapy to help them explore their emotions, communicate effectively, and build skills in ways that feel natural and safe. I meet children where they are, using play as a bridge to help them grow, express themselves, and feel supported.

In addition to the therapeutic approaches listed above, I’m joined in practice by Samwise, “Sammy,” the in-house emotional comfort dog. Sammy is deaf and partially blind, but he more than makes up for it with his talent for cuddles and his endless supply of affection. His calming presence brings comfort and joy to those who enjoy the gentle companionship of animals while we work together.

MY STORY

I was born and raised here in the Pacific Northwest and made my way to Bellingham in 2007 to attend Western Washington University, where I earned my BS in Sports Psychology. I loved it here so much, I never really left.

In 2013, I returned to Western to pursue my MA in Rehabilitation Counseling. Alongside learning counseling and therapy practices, I focused on working with individuals with disabilities—learning how to support not only their emotional needs but also how to help them navigate complex systems at the federal, state, and county levels. Wanting to deepen that work, I went on to earn my MEd in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of Washington in 2016. That training helped me better understand how to support individuals on the autism spectrum and with other cognitive or developmental differences, including how to collaborate with schools on IEPs and behavior support plans.

I’ve been a licensed mental health therapist in Washington since 2016, a certified rehabilitation counselor since 2015, and a licensed behavior analyst since 2018. I maintain all of my credentials with continuing education every year, including ongoing training in ethics, because I believe good therapists are always learning.

I’ve been working as a therapist and counselor since 2015, started my private online practice in December 2018, and opened my in-person office here in Bellingham in February 2020. It’s been such a privilege to grow this practice in a place I care so deeply about.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my son, our sweet and spunky dog Sammy, and our regal cat, HRH Leia. I’m a big fan of all things nerdy—games (tabletop, board, video), comics, art, and anything creative—if the fantastical is involved, I am likely to enjoy it. I’m always on the lookout for adventure, whether that means traveling somewhere new or simply finding the latest coffee trend to obsess over. And yes, I firmly believe there’s no such thing as too much yarn.

I look forward to getting to know you and supporting you in your journey.
